What is the Gospel?
The word "gospel" literally means "good news." But what exactly is this good news that has transformed billions of lives throughout history?
The Problem: We Are Separated from God
The Bible teaches that every person has sinned—we've all fallen short of God's perfect standard. This sin separates us from a holy God.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
— Romans 3:23 (NIV)
The Solution: Jesus Christ
God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to bridge the gap between us and Him. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
— John 3:16 (NIV)
The Response: Faith and Repentance
The gospel calls us to respond by turning from our sin (repentance) and trusting in Jesus (faith).
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
— Romans 10:9 (NIV)
The Result: New Life
When we receive the gospel, we are given new life. We are forgiven, adopted into God's family, and given the hope of eternal life.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
Why the Gospel Matters
The gospel is not just a ticket to heaven—it transforms our lives here and now. It gives us:
- Forgiveness and freedom from guilt
- A new identity as children of God
- Purpose and meaning in life
- The power to live differently
- Hope for the future
